A little history

Popular opinion considers the Arabian to be one of the oldest horse breeds, if not the oldest:

According to anthropologist Christoph Lange (University of Cologne), in 2016, "it is widely accepted that the breed was almost established by the middle of the second millennium BCE." CAB International (2016) nuances this popular idea, stating that particular morphological characteristics have been selected since the 19th century.
