Did you know that a kangaroo can pause her pregnancy and have up to 3 babies in her pouch at the same time? At birth, the baby measures 2 to 3 cm and weighs 1 g; it stays in its mother's pouch for 235 to 250 days. It pokes its head out of the pouch for the first time around 5 to 6 months. It leaves the pouch permanently 3 months later. Mama kangaroo is very careful when hopping to move around, covering distances of up to 3 meters, she tightens and contracts her muscles to keep her baby securely in place. The particular shape of its legs and the thickness of its tail prevent it from walking easily. The kangaroo is the largest marsupial in the world, found in mainland Australia, Tasmania, and New Guinea; its size can exceed that of a man and it feeds on grass, leaves, and tree shoots.
